Our client is seeking an IoM Access Engineer to join their Service Operations department on a full-time basis in the Isle of Man. This role involves designing, planning, supervising, and managing access network infrastructure, including civil engineering works and fibre optic systems. You will ensure the ongoing development and maintenance of network components while supporting both business and residential fibre installations.
Job Duties:
- Assist in the design, planning, and management of duct infrastructure, fibre optic systems, and civil works
- Conduct initial paper and field surveys to determine the most efficient service delivery methods
- Produce technical scheme documentation and coordinate with local authorities
- Liaise with developers and clients to agree network entry points and ducting routes
- Obtain permissions, wayleaves, and consents for network access and development
- Coordinate roadworks and resurfacing with relevant authorities
- Manage and maintain Line Plant records accurately and consistently
- Provide fibre splicing services for internal CSSPs, FDPs, FTTP Splitter Nodes, and customer panels
- Carry out external fibre splicing on Prysmian LMJ and MMJ nodes
- Support installations of internal cabling and external UG fibre drop/backbone cables
- Respond to and resolve customer service issues and assist with large orders or new developments
- Provide advice and input into wider engineering and mobile projects as required
- Participate in Dial Before You Dig services and ensure plant protection
- Attend meetings and represent the engineering function as needed
Job Requirements:
- Solid understanding of telecommunications, including IP, Carrier Ethernet, FTTP, VOIP, and traditional voice
- Proven experience with fibre splicing for both internal and external nodes
- Experience installing internal cabling (INTEX and Invizi) in MDUs and single dwellings
- Skilled in external cabling using UG networks for fibre drops and backbone cables
- Proficient in communication and documentation with high attention to detail
- Demonstrated ability to prioritise work, solve problems, and remain calm under pressure
- Willingness to work independently or collaboratively within a team
- Road Works Guarding training and CAT/Genny avoidance skills desirable
- Experience with OTDR fault-finding, Fibre Loss meters, and installing Cisco/Adva/Metrodata NTEs advantageous
- Fibre patching knowledge and experience through ODFs and core infrastructure desirable
