Trust Manager

In this role, you will have overall responsibility for the day-to-day assistance with the management and control of a trust administration team’s portfolio of clients. The portfolio will consist of a mixture of trusts, companies, and other structures, dealing with both routine and complex arrangements. The role also involves developing, mentoring, and coaching the trust administration team members. This position is pivotal in ensuring that clients receive an efficient, informed, and personal service.

Job Duties:

  • Manage the day-to-day running of a trust administration team’s portfolio of clients.
  • Ensure compliance with all procedures manuals, relevant laws, guidelines, regulations, and codes of practice.
  • Liaise with other departments regarding accounting, taxation, and operational issues.
  • Communicate with clients and intermediaries both by telephone and in writing, attending meetings as necessary.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients and intermediaries within the trust administration team, providing support in the absence of relevant relationship principals.
  • Assist junior employees with queries and problems, contributing to resolving these issues.
  • Act as a ‘B’ signatory for the trust entity.
  • Provide cover for other teams and managers in times of absence.
  • Identify efficiencies and implement necessary measures.
  • Manage a trust administration team, providing guidance and assistance on query resolution and ensuring team members receive appropriate training.
  • Complete annual appraisals and probation reviews, supporting sub-team leaders effectively.
  • Escalate matters to the Client Director as necessary.
  • Ensure all team members meet efficiency targets and adhere to KPIs and deadlines.
  • Resolve conflicts within the team or escalate them appropriately.

Job Requirements:

  • A minimum of 8 years’ relevant experience in trust administration.
  • A relevant professional qualification such as STEP Diploma, ICSA Diploma, or equivalent.
  • Strong business writing and numeracy skills.
  • Proven experience managing an administration team and own portfolio of clients.
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of imparting knowledge to clients and professional intermediaries.
  • Demonstrated capability in managing and maintaining client relationships in line with KPIs and standards.
  • Strong sense of responsibility for personal work and that delegated to the administration team, effective at prioritising workload and meeting deadlines.
  • Sound knowledge of the legal and regulatory framework in Guernsey and other territories, including anti-money laundering provisions and relevant fiduciary laws.
  • Technical competence in fiduciary matters, including trusts, companies, pensions, and limited partnerships.
  • Excellent critical analysis and problem-solving skills, with the ability to convey insights to improve work standards and efficiency.
  • Ability to work to deadlines, quickly assess situations, and identify potential problem areas with solutions.
