Senior Trust Officer

Our client is seeking a Senior Trust Officer who will play a central role in delivering high-quality administration and oversight of Guernsey law trusts within an organically growing and modernising trust proposition. As a senior member of the Client Servicing Trust team, this role provides local substance for the Guernsey operation, manages a portfolio of trust clients, and ensures that all oversight, compliance standards, and administration are met to a high professional level. The post holder will work both independently and collaboratively, coordinating work across various teams, while also supporting and guiding future junior administrators as the team expands. The client is committed to supporting the post holder in developing their professional qualifications and progressing their growth within the team. This is a full-time role requiring a minimum of 35 hours per week.

Job Duties:

  • Review onboarding packs from New Business to ensure completeness, accuracy, and alignment with internal standards
  • Conduct initial assessments of new trusts, including Deed of Retirement and Appointment (DORA), pour over trust evaluations, and new Trust Advice Records
  • Evaluate risks, structural viability, and suitability within the firm's operating model
  • Identify any documentation gaps or compliance follow-ups
  • Manage a portfolio of trusts as the primary client relationship officer
  • Ensure accurate and complete trust records are maintained, including correspondence, transactions, etc.
  • Execute transactions
  • Oversee core trust administration, including drafting trustee minutes/resolutions for distributions, loans, and investments, and reviewing and interpreting trust deeds, indemnities, and agreements
  • Contribute to periodic trust file reviews to ensure regulatory alignment and timely resolution of actions
  • Oversee and manage the Trust inbox to maintain timely communication
  • Work in line with the 3LoD Compliance model
  • Maintain AML/CFT compliance, including CDD, SOF/SOW assessments, ongoing monitoring, and file updates
  • Collaborate closely with the Compliance team to ensure high standards of regulatory adherence
  • Support information collation for FATCA/CRS when required
  • Uphold Guernsey regulatory expectations in all trust matters
  • Work effectively with various departments including Risk and Compliance, Investments/Reserved Advisers, Client Accounting, Finance and Control, Client Services, and external legal counsel as needed
  • Delegate and assign tasks to future South Africa-based junior administrators as the team expands
  • Review completed work, provide instructions, and uphold quality control
  • Provide leadership and guidance to future junior administrators as they join the team
  • Support the Technical Manager in developing training materials, guidance notes, and internal knowledge content
  • Participate in strategy discussions supporting long-term business growth

Job Requirements:

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in Guernsey trust administration or a similar offshore jurisdiction
  • STEP Diploma or equivalent, or actively working towards it
  • Strong understanding of Guernsey Trust Law, Reserved Powers, AML/CFT, and fiduciary best practice
  • Ability to interpret trust deeds and related legal documents
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently whilst collaborating across departments
  • High level of professionalism, ethics, and sound judgment
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to manage competing deadlines
