Our client is seeking a senior lawyer with extensive experience in non-contentious trust matters to join their ambitious International Trusts and Private Clients (ITPC) practice in Guernsey. The unique ITPC practice operates cohesively across multiple offices, combining exceptional non-contentious and advisory skills with specialist expertise, including Private Wealth advisory, structuring, and dispute resolution. In this role, the senior lawyer will focus on providing expert legal advice to clients on Guernsey matters, guiding and supporting the development of ITPC colleagues, and enhancing business-building activities. Responsibilities include advising high net worth families, trust companies, and family offices on the establishment, management, and restructuring of offshore asset-holding structures, as well as providing guidance on estate and succession planning. The role encompasses working across multiple jurisdictions to support private wealth objectives and ensure effective governance for families and trustees across generations. Collaboration with colleagues in dispute resolution on trust matters and corporate structures for private clients will also be essential. The position offers high levels of responsibility with access to high-value and complex work within a friendly and supportive team environment.
Job Duties:
- Obtain clear instructions from clients, analyse points of law, provide expert legal advice and prepare relevant documentation or advice for Partner review.
- Review and provide comments on documentation from third parties using a thorough working knowledge of relevant legal principles, laws, and regulations.
- Effectively manage own matters and assist Associates and other junior fee earners involved, regularly reviewing their progress and addressing issues.
- Build strong relationships within the team, engage in high-quality supervision, and foster a positive team ethos by leading by example.
- Share expertise to develop individual capabilities within the team and enhance the overall technical and professional capability of the firm globally.
- Proactively promote and build the practice by leveraging existing network connections and taking a lead role in client proposals and business-building opportunities.
- Assist the relevant Partner in managing department Associates, Paralegals, and secretarial staff, including effective delegation of work and resources.
- Demonstrate effective leadership skills by communicating a clear vision and managing change initiatives alongside the practice leader.
- Ensure administrative tasks are completed on each matter in accordance with required internal procedures, including conflict searching and billing.
Job Requirements:
- Hold a Solicitor or Barrister qualification, preferably from a common law jurisdiction.
- Ideally possess a minimum of eight years' post-qualification experience within a relevant practice, including some offshore experience.
- STEP qualified.
- Strong organisation, business-building, communication, and presentation skills necessary.
- Ability to work under pressure, often within tight deadlines.
- Excellent understanding of commercially focused matter management and financial performance.
- A proactive working approach and willingness to develop existing skills and update legal knowledge through additional training.
- Ability to work flexibly and collaboratively within both direct and wider teams.
