Senior Manager, Operations & Business Support

The role of Senior Manager, Operations & Business Support involves providing vital support to the Director by leading and assisting with a variety of risk and operational projects as well as transformation initiatives aimed at enhancing efficiency and improvement within the Channel Islands business and the wider Group. The successful candidate will be instrumental in the development and maintenance of the Group Risk Framework, collaborating closely with Risk teams and engaging with various stakeholders across the organisation. Key responsibilities will include assisting in the management of Operations, Facilities, and Onboarding functions, which have significant impacts on the Group. The postholder will work alongside the Director to drive initiatives that standardise processes, improve efficiencies, and deliver support to client-facing teams. Overseeing projects undertaken by the Operations team regarding group and local transformation will be expected, along with considering avenues to achieve efficiency through automated processing or Centres of Excellence. This position is ideally suited for an individual with a diverse skill set, possessing commercial awareness and a clear understanding of the implications of decision-making across the Group.

Job Duties:

  • Drive efficiencies across the business by assessing best practices and implementing changes to enhance existing processes.
  • Own and control key data while considering the alignment and standardisation of this data between Guernsey, Jersey, and the wider Group.
  • Identify necessary developments in Acumen, the core database, concerning data handling, reporting, analysis, and compliance with regulatory obligations.
  • Identify and develop potential Centres of Excellence or areas where support can be provided to the wider business.
  • Liaise and coordinate with third-party providers, including Internal Audit and Risk Consultants.
  • Collaborate with the Risk Associate Director to formulate suitable controls to mitigate operational risk, supporting the business in implementing these controls.
  • Manage operational risk for the Channel Islands by identifying and addressing key data risks effectively.
  • Compile reports from Channel Islands businesses in alignment with key risk indicators and analyse these reports for trends and issues.
  • Oversee actions taken to address identified issues, ensuring proper root cause analysis and necessary remediation.
  • Manage outsourced projects on behalf of Operations and Business Support.
  • Serve as a member of the Policies & Procedures Committees (Channel Islands).
  • Monitor errors and breaches, evaluating their impact on the business.
  • Assist with regulatory visits and own the Dynamic Risk Assessment policy and procedure in conjunction with the Risk Associate Director.
  • Champion the values of the organisation by promoting professionalism, teamwork, and leadership.
  • Understand the business plan and the direction of the Group, recognising individual contributions to the overall vision.
  • Encourage a culture of continuous training and development while cascading information to the team and actively seeking feedback.

Job Requirements:

  • A minimum of 5 years' experience in a relevant role.
  • Successful attainment of a relevant professional qualification.
  • Excellent experience in Trust and Company operations.
  • Strong communication skills with an ability to build relationships across the organisation.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the risks facing the sector, including data security, people-related risks, and regulatory compliance.
  • Knowledge of industry best practices related to operations and risk management.
  • Experience working within the Private Wealth or Corporate Services sector on a cross-jurisdictional basis.
  • Demonstrated ability to produce technical reports and manage projects with minimal supervision.
  • Proficient IT skills, particularly in Excel.
  • Strong presentation skills and sound judgement.
  • Capability to mentor and coach junior colleagues.
