Contract Accountant / Bookkeeper - 12 months

This position is offered on a fixed-term basis for a duration of up to 12 months, with the possibility of extension. Reporting to the Financial Controller, the role involves maintaining accurate financial records and strong financial controls, managing debt collection and subscription processes, and providing timely reporting, forecasting, and financial support to Senior Management and the Board. The post holder will assist in finance-related projects, applying accounting expertise to enhance processes, systems, reporting, and overall financial performance. Key responsibilities include preparing management reports, conducting financial analysis, supporting project accounting initiatives, and ensuring the integrity of accounting records. The role also requires collaboration with various stakeholders to meet set deadlines and deliver outcomes.

Job Duties:

  • Manage debt and collections by monitoring aged debt and taking proactive steps to reduce debtor balances.
  • Prepare and analyse quarterly management reports against budgets and KPIs for the Executive Team and Board.
  • Provide dedicated project accounting support, focusing on financial improvements and reporting development.
  • Maintain accurate accounting records, including daily invoicing and reconciliation.
  • Complete bank reconciliations and ensure timely month-end and year-end close processes.
  • Maintain an accurate fixed asset register and complete balance sheet account reconciliations.
  • Assist in the preparation of financial statements and audit requests.
  • Prepare budgets and financial plans while working with budget holders to review expenditure and prepare reports.

Job Requirements:

  • Qualified Accountant holding a recognised qualification (e.g. ACCA, ACA, CIMA) or qualified by significant relevant experience with demonstrated senior-level accounting capability.
  • Strong accounting capability with the ability to work autonomously and take ownership of key financial processes.
  • Proven experience in budget setting and financial forecasting within tight deadlines and complex environments.
  • Proficiency in complex accounting systems, preferably XERO, with the ability to analyse and present financial data effectively.
  • Self-driven and proactive, with strong communication skills to liaise with various stakeholders.
