Our client is seeking a Security and Internet Services Engineer to join their team across Guernsey, Jersey or the Isle of Man. This full-time position (37.5 hours per week) offers a varied and technical opportunity to manage, support, design, and develop security and internet services. The successful candidate will take an active role in the maintenance of security infrastructure, incident response, and support of related technologies, ensuring customer needs and service levels are consistently met.
Job Duties:
- Manage the SIEM platform
- Manage the firewall estate
- Maintain and administer Linux servers
- Manage and maintain public DNS (authoritative and recursive)
- Oversee SSL certificate lifecycle management
- Operate and improve monitoring and alerting tools
- Perform vulnerability management and mitigation
- Produce and maintain operational documentation and procedures
- Work alongside the Security Architect to assess assets, identify weaknesses, and maintain appropriate security measures
- Investigate security alerts and support incident response
- Assist in implementing the organisation’s security strategy and integrating security technologies
- Support secure configuration and patch management best practices
- Generate reports for technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Participate in the design, operation, and evolution of security systems
- Support internal audit processes and liaise with stakeholders
- Provide call-out cover on a rota basis
- Travel off-island when required
- Supervise and coordinate team members, suppliers, and subcontractors when appropriate
- Attain and maintain at least one relevant technical professional qualification
Job Requirements:
- Experience with Checkpoint firewalls (a Check Point qualification is highly desirable)
- Experience configuring and maintaining security technologies such as IPS, vulnerability scanning, patch management, log correlation, and SIEM
- Strong Linux administration skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- High attention to detail and ability to produce accurate work
- Strong organisational skills with a methodical approach
- Effective communicator with the ability to liaise across all levels
- Experience administering DNS servers (BIND or PowerDNS preferred)
- Familiarity with Red Hat Linux
- Experience or knowledge of platforms such as Qualys for vulnerability and patch management
- Experience managing VMware environments
- Enthusiasm for current and future technologies
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Willingness to work unsociable hours, including standby and callouts, when necessary
- Satisfactory Basic Police Disclosure due to the sensitive nature of the role
