Head of Data

The Head of Data is a pivotal role responsible for overseeing the core data capability within a dynamic financial services group. This includes owning the data architecture, models, integrations, analytics, and reporting estate across multiple jurisdictions. The position requires a strategic vision for data as a valuable asset, ensuring it is well-governed, reliable, and readily accessible to support business operations and regulatory compliance. This role entails close collaboration with various teams, including Infrastructure, Business Applications, Security, and Data Protection, to translate the data strategy into actionable delivery. Furthermore, the Head of Data will need to have a robust practical knowledge and hands-on skills alongside managerial abilities to guide a talented team of data engineers and analysts. The position reports directly to the Group CTO and acts as the primary contact for data-related inquiries within the business, accommodating the growth, acquisitions, and technology advancements of the organisation.

Job Duties:

  • Own and maintain the core data architecture, ensuring scalability and security across all jurisdictions.
  • Define and govern data models, data artefacts, and master data standards throughout the organisation.
  • Oversee the design, construction, and management of the data warehouse and data lake architecture.
  • Identify emerging data trends and technologies to deliver business value.
  • Develop and maintain a data roadmap to balance strategic initiatives with operational needs.
  • Manage all data interfaces and integrations between applications and external systems.
  • Collaborate with business applications teams to define integration requirements for systems.
  • Ensure the robustness and documentation of integrations for quality assurance.
  • Deliver meaningful analytics and reporting capabilities through dashboards.
  • Engage with the business to understand reporting needs and translate them into effective data products.
  • Establish data lifecycle processes, ensuring compliance with data protection legislation.
  • Foster a data-driven culture and champion data literacy across the organisation.
  • Lead a team of data engineers and analysts, setting objectives and supporting their professional development.
  • Uphold the values of the organisation through additional responsibilities as required.

Job Requirements:

  • Significant experience in data architecture, data engineering, or analytics leadership in a multi-jurisdictional setting.
  • Proven track record in managing enterprise data platforms from design to operational management.
  • Strong technical skills in data modelling, ETL/integration, and business intelligence tooling (e.g., Microsoft Fabric, Power BI).
  • Sound understanding of data governance, quality practices, and relevant data protection legislation.
  • Experience in contributing to AI strategy and understanding data foundations for responsible AI adoption.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills to translate business needs into technical solutions.
  • Experience in leading and developing data teams effectively.
  • Familiarity with integrating data estates from newly acquired businesses in a fast-paced environment.
  • Background in financial services or regulated environments is preferred.
  • Exceptional communication skills to promote data literacy and influence a data-driven culture.
